Honiara Botanic Gardens

The story of these gardens is one of resilience and local pride. The collection, once a showpiece, risked fading into memory as invasive plants and neglect took hold. The turning point came in 1990 when a collaborative effort breathed new life into the area. Driven by the expertise of botanist David Glenny, local gardener Geoff Dennis, and researcher Myknee Qusa Sirikolo, the team embarked on a massive restoration project. Their work involved more than simple gardening; it was a dedicated effort to preserve the scientific and cultural heritage embedded in the soil. They carefully documented the species, cleared the overgrowth, and restored the collections to their former glory. Today, the gardens stand as a testament to that restorative spirit.
