  • Executioner's Bridge & Weinstadel

    HENKERSTEG UND WEINSTADEL

The view from the Max Bridge toward the covered wooden walkway and the overhanging, half-timbered wine depot is arguably the city's most iconic composition. The dark wood and red tiles reflect sharply in the slow-moving river Pegnitz. Drooping willow branches often frame the shot perfectly from the northern bank. The geometry works best with a wide-angle lens to capture both structures and the water.

  • Holy Ghost Hospital over the River

    HEILIG-GEIST-SPITAL

Shooting from the Museum Bridge directly toward the east captures the heavy stone arches of the medieval hospital jutting out over the Pegnitz river. The water rushes swiftly underneath the building, creating dynamic movement in the foreground. The small, wooden gallery courtyard hangs precariously over the central arch. It provides a striking example of architecture completely dominating a waterway.

  • Meat Bridge

    FLEISCHBRÜCKE

This single-arch stone bridge spans the Pegnitz without a central pillar, an engineering feat modelled directly on the Rialto Bridge in Venice. Shooting from the riverbank captures the elegant, flat curve of the masonry against the water. The structure acts as an excellent foreground frame when photographing the Holy Ghost Hospital downstream.

  • Tanners' Lane

    WEISSGERBERGASSE

This narrow, gently curving street offers the densest concentration of colourful, meticulously restored half-timbered houses in the city. The lack of modern facades creates an unbroken visual timeline stretching back to the 16th century. Shooting from a low angle emphasizes the uneven, bulging nature of the upper storeys leaning over the cobblestones. The street looks particularly atmospheric shortly after rainfall, when the stones gleam.

  • Tiergärtnertor Square

    TIERGÄRTNERTORPLATZ

Standing at the bottom of this sloping, cobbled square forces the lens upward, capturing the massive sandstone fortifications looming over traditional Franconian facades. The multi-storey Dürer House anchors the left side of the frame, providing scale against the heavy defensive towers. The bizarre bronze hare sculpture in the foreground adds a surreal, modern element to the medieval backdrop. Golden hour light hits the sandstone walls beautifully.

  • Congress Hall at Dutzendteich

    KONGRESSHALLE AM DUTZENDTEICH

The massive, curved brick and granite facade of the unfinished Nazi rally building reflects ominously in the still waters of the adjacent lake. The sheer, overwhelming scale of the architecture becomes obvious when capturing tiny pedestrians or pedal boats in the foreground. The stark geometry and brutalist nature of the structure contrasts sharply with the surrounding trees and water. Overcast, grey days enhance the imposing, heavy atmosphere of the shot.

  • Goose Man Fountain

    GÄNSEMÄNNCHENBRUNNEN

A bronze peasant stands on a stone pedestal with two geese tucked tightly under his arms, water constantly pouring from the birds' open beaks. Cast in the mid-16th century, the intricate, highly expressive facial details of the figure provide an excellent subject for tight, close-up photography. The surrounding cobblestones and timber frames help contextualise the historical water feature.
