Rance Estuary to Dinard Ride

Cycling Route

This route heads south out of the city, following the water down to the impressive engineering marvel of the tidal dam. Crossing the barrage places you on the opposite bank of the estuary, leading into the elegant resort town of Dinard. You will cycle past grand 19th century villas perched precariously on the cliff edges. The return journey offers sweeping views of the walled city standing solitary across the bay.

WHY WE LOVE THIS ROUTE

This ride perfectly balances monumental modern engineering with the delicate, historic architecture of the coastal resorts. Crossing the physical barrier of the dam provides a visceral sense of the ocean's power that shapes this entire region.

RIDER'S NOTEBOOK

  • Check the lock schedule at the tidal station, as the road bridge occasionally lifts for boats.
  • The wind on the dam can be incredibly strong; grip your handlebars tightly when crossing.
