The massive, curving exterior wall of the new library is an architectural photographer's dream. Carved deeply with enormous characters, letters, and hieroglyphs from alphabets across human history, the granite wall offers incredible textures. Photographing the wall at an angle, especially when the strong afternoon sun casts deep shadows into the carvings, produces highly striking, graphic images.

This is arguably the most photographed modern landmark in the city. The sweeping curve of the bridge, with its grand Islamic-style towers, creates a perfect leading line over the Mediterranean. During sunset, the sky bursts into stunning shades of orange and pink, beautifully reflecting off the water and the illuminated bridge towers. It captures the deeply romantic, coastal essence of the city.

The western edge of the Eastern Harbour is packed with dozens of small, brightly painted traditional wooden fishing boats. It is an excellent spot to capture the raw, authentic working life of this ancient port city.

Hiring a small rowboat or taking a short cruise in the harbour allows you to photograph the imposing Mamluk fortress from its most dramatic angle. Seeing the thick, sand-coloured walls rising directly out of the crashing blue waves perfectly illustrates its historical defensive purpose. It offers a clean, unobstructed shot of the entire complex without the crowds.

The historic Fouad Street is lined with magnificent, slightly faded 19th-century European architecture. Focusing your camera upward reveals intricate wrought-iron balconies, ornate stucco details, and wooden shutters. Capturing these architectural remnants against the bright blue sky evokes a deep, nostalgic mood, highlighting the city's glamorous cosmopolitan past.
