Grand Waterfront Promenade

Walking Route

This is the quintessential Salerno experience, an easy, beautiful walk along one of the most celebrated promenades in Italy. With the sea lapping against the rocks on one side and elegant architecture on the other, the setting is incredibly romantic. You will walk beneath the shade of mature palm trees and oleanders, passing locals engaged in their daily 'passeggiata'. The light here, especially in the late afternoon, casts a golden hue over the entire city.

WHY WE LOVE THIS ROUTE

It is the best way to immediately grasp the character and pace of the city. The promenade is entirely flat, immaculately maintained, and offers constant, sweeping views of the coastline that stretches towards the Amalfi Coast. It provides a sense of spaciousness and calm that is rare in busy southern Italian cities.

WALKER'S FIELD NOTES

  • Grab a gelato from one of the artisanal shops near Piazza Cavour to enjoy while you walk.
  • The promenade is particularly beautiful during the 'golden hour' just before sunset.
