  • Boccadasse Cove

    BAIA DI BOCCADASSE

This perfectly preserved fishing village offers one of the most iconic and highly photographed scenes in the entire region. The incredibly tight cluster of brightly painted, pastel houses seemingly tumbles down the steep rocks to meet a small, curved pebble beach. Small wooden boats are scattered across the shore, providing brilliant foreground interest against the shimmering Mediterranean water. Capturing the scene from the eastern edge of the cove allows you to frame the entire colourful village with the sea in the background. It is incredibly photogenic at any time of day, but the warm light of the late afternoon makes the colours truly pop.

  • Soprana Gate

    PORTA SOPRANA

These two massive, looming stone towers once served as the primary eastern entrance through the city's formidable twelfth-century defensive walls. From a photographic perspective, they offer a brilliant contrast between sheer medieval military might and the surrounding modern urban life. Standing slightly down the hill allows you to shoot upwards, emphasising their towering, heavy presence against the sky. The narrow archway between the towers also creates a fantastic natural frame for capturing the lively, sloping street of Via di Ravecca beyond. It is a highly impactful structural subject that conveys the city's ancient strength.

  • St. George Palace

    PALAZZO SAN GIORGIO

Located right at the edge of the Old Port, this stunning historic building demands to be photographed due to its incredibly vibrant, fully frescoed facade. The intricate, brightly painted trompe l'oeil designs depict historical figures, including St. George slaying the dragon, covering almost every inch of the exterior. The wide, open space in front of the palace allows for completely unobstructed, sweeping architectural shots. The vibrant colours contrast brilliantly against the sleek, modern white masts and structures of the adjacent harbour. It serves as a beautiful, highly detailed visual anchor between the sea and the medieval alleys.

  • St. Matthew Square

    PIAZZA SAN MATTEO

This small, remarkably intact medieval square provides a highly dramatic, almost cinematic backdrop for photography. It is entirely surrounded by the imposing palaces of the powerful Doria family, all featuring striking, alternating bands of stark black and white marble. The incredibly dense, enclosed nature of the square creates a moody, atmospheric lighting situation, with shadows playing deeply across the ancient stone facades. Framing a shot looking towards the intricately carved portal of the central church captures the essence of the city's powerful, austere medieval period. It looks particularly stunning in the soft, diffused light of an overcast day.

  • Corso Italia Sunset

    TRAMONTO IN CORSO ITALIA

The sweeping, multi-kilometre coastal promenade offers entirely unobstructed, wide-angle views over the Ligurian Sea, making it the premier location for sunset photography. As the sun dips low, it casts a spectacular, warm golden light along the crashing waves and the elegant, palm-lined avenue. The long, curving sea walls provide excellent leading lines for dramatic landscape compositions. Photographers can easily capture the silhouettes of evening joggers, rollerbladers, and distant ships against the vividly coloured sky. The sheer openness of the location allows for expansive, highly evocative coastal imagery.
