Hobart Rivulet Track

Walking Route

This highly tranquil path follows the gentle flow of the city's original fresh water source up into the foothills. Leaving the concrete city behind, the landscape quickly transforms into a lush, green corridor filled with weeping willows and native flora. It is famously one of the best places in the entire country to spot wild platypuses right inside an urban environment. The track is shaded, cool, and incredibly peaceful, making you forget you are in a capital city. It feels like a secret garden path leading toward the mountain.

WHY WE LOVE THIS ROUTE

It is an incredibly rare opportunity to enjoy a peaceful nature walk, spot elusive wildlife, and explore significant heritage sites without ever needing to get into a car.

WALKER'S FIELD NOTES

  • If you are hoping to spot a platypus, walk quietly and keep your eyes peeled for small bubbles and ripples near the muddy banks.
  • The track ends conveniently right near a famous brewery, making a cold local beer the perfect reward for the walk.
