The Seasons of Augsburg

Every season brings a distinct personality to the city. Whether you prefer the vibrant blooms of spring or the crisp, quiet charm of winter, find out what makes Augsburg beautiful year-round.

  • Spring

    8.8°C
    FRÜHLING

The brutal winter cold finally breaks, and the dense urban forests explode into a massive, aggressive shade of green. Locals immediately drag heavy wooden tables onto the pavements outside cafes in the old town, desperately soaking in the first rays of weak sunlight. The snowmelt from the Alps causes the Lech and Wertach rivers to flow violently fast, creating a loud, constant roar across the city.

  • Summer

    17.6°C
    SOMMER

Heat aggressively bakes the cobblestones, forcing everyone into the deep shade of the massive beer gardens or the cool canopy of the Siebentischwald. The Plärrer folk festival brings loud, chaotic brass music and heavy beer drinking to the fairgrounds. The canals provide a highly necessary, slightly cooler microclimate as you walk through the narrow artisan alleys.

  • Autumn

    8.7°C
    HERBST

A sharp, biting chill returns to the air, and the vast urban forests turn a deeply bruised shade of orange and brown. This is the absolute best time to eat heavy, hot Kässpatzen in a dark, wood-panelled tavern while avoiding the frequent, heavy rain showers. The tourist crowds thin out massively, leaving the Renaissance squares quiet and deeply atmospheric.

  • Winter

    0.5°C

Freezing alpine winds whip fiercely down the wide boulevards, occasionally dropping heavy layers of snow on the copper rooftops. The massive Christmas market completely takes over the Rathausplatz, smelling intensely of roasting sausages and heavily spiced mulled wine. The exceptionally still, quiet angel performance on the facade of the town hall provides a moment of pure magic in the freezing dark.
