    Admiring the Temple of Apollo

    AMMIRARE IL TEMPIO DI APOLLO

Unlike the main archaeological park which requires a ticket, the oldest Doric ruins in Sicily sit entirely open and visible right in the middle of a public square. You can walk right up to the low railings to inspect the massive, weathered stone columns and the ancient inscriptions perfectly. Surrounding the ruins are informative plaques that detail its fascinating transformation from a Greek temple to a Byzantine church and even a mosque. It is incredibly well lit at night, offering a spectacular, completely free glimpse into antiquity.
